How far did its influence extend? We know that it was important in the Middle East, especially in Egypt in the fourth century, but can we assume that the circumstances to which it addresses itself existed that far away when it first appeared? There is probably no way that that question can be answered, but there is a clue which may suggest that it was relevant to a fairly large segment of the Palestinian Church. To a large measure, the Didache focuses upon matters related to a class of wandering
